The Spiritual Life Committee is pleased to announce that our Educator-in-Residence for the Gibson Lectures for 2025 is the Rev. Dr. Lillian Daniel. Dr. Daniel is the Conference Ministry for the United Church of Christ (UCC) Michigan Conference, where she is responsible for the care of 135 congregations and their clergy. Lillian Daniel is also a widely read author whose latest book, Tired of Apologizing for a Church I Don’t Belong To generated international conversation about the changing religious landscape. It continues the theme of her 2013 book When ‘Spiritual But Not Religious’ Is Not Enough about the growing number of people who claim “none” as their religious preference. Featured in the New York Times and on PBS, Lillian Daniel’s writing has been described as “biting, hilarious, pitch perfect, tender, and often stunningly beautiful,” and her book This Odd and Wondrous Calling is taught in many seminaries.
The theme for the Gibson Lectures has yet to be defined but will almost certainly deal with the blessings and challenges for communities of faith in our present context. The lectures will take place the week of Monday, July 28th through Friday, August 1st during the noon hour in the Assembly Building.
