The CSA Education Fund was established October 24, 1992 to provide scholarships to CSA and Benzie County students and to support education programs deemed worthy by the Trustees. The scholarships are granted to students who have financial need, have demonstrated scholastic ability, and who have been accepted by an undergraduate or post graduate program at an accredited college or university, or into a vocational program. Past recipients are welcome to apply. Scholarships are presented during the August Operetta intermission.

Contributions to the CSA Education Fund are tax deductible. General, honorary or memorial gifts to the CSA Education Fund should be sent to the CSA Education Fund, care of Luanne Buzzell, 423 Lake Street, Frankfort, Ml 49635.

Thanks to the generous contributions of the CSA membership and support by local Benzie County area citizens, in 2007 the Education Fund was able to award five scholarships totaling $20,000.

2007 was the fifth year that the Tom Williams Memorial Award was an option for presentation. This award is presented to the applicant who is most deserving and who most embodies the spirit and dedication to service of Tom Williams. No student qualified this year.

The trustees of the CSA Education Fund would like to thank those who gave memorials, and acknowledge those in whose memory or honor gifts were given. This year contributions were made:

In Honor of: Hannah and Noel Smith, Jared Lambiotte, Eileen Rauschert, Jim and Luanne Buzzell, Mary Gosnell, Amy Ferris, Molly Sturges, Ethel Hilton, Karen Evans, and Martha Errthum.

In Memory of: Pinky Fairchild, Vera Larson, Judy Perry, Ernie Collins, Ethel and Clark Cooper,

Wilford and Maude Evans, Dr. Reynold J. Gottlieb , John and Sue Sturges, Harry and Lois Wrench, Willard I. Webb Ill, B. Whitman Dennison, Violet Lindner, Ruth Jorgensen, Patricia Cunningham, Robert Shreiner, Dick Pfeiffer, Bryan Greene, NancyJ. Knight, Mary Burrows, Thomas W. Williams,Doris Howe, Bob Bovard, Betty Johnson, Norman Davies, Alice Ohlinger Weaver, Charlene B. Seabury, John R. Longmire, Bernard Meland, Kathryne Gosnell, Cynthia Davidson, Esther Swern, Elizabeth Carter, LambertTrovillion, Connie Zetterberg, Lucy Ohlinger, Dr. & Mrs. John N. Lukens, Nelaura “Rusty” Lewis, John H. Terry, and Willis Terry.

We are also very grateful for a generous donation from the Dutton Foundation.

The balance in the Education Fund at the end of the summer season was $10,763.02. This relatively large amount was due to the small number of scholarships that were given out in comparison to previous years.

We look forward to a larger number of applicants in ‘08.
