Jan 29th, 2012 | Category: Education FundThe CSA Education Fund was established October 24, 1992 to provide scholarships to CSA and Benzie County students to support their educational studies deemed worthy by the CSA Education Fund Trustees. The scholarships are granted to students who have shown financial need, have demonstrated scholastic ability, have participated in community service, and who have been accepted by an undergraduate or post graduate program at an accredited college or university, or into a vocational program. Past recipients are welcome to apply. Scholarships are presented during intermission of the operetta in July. Contributions to the CSA Education Fund are tax deductible. General, honorary or memorial gifts to the CSA Education Fund should be sent to: CSA Education Fund, care of Carol Edmonds, P.O. Box 1026, Frankfort, MI 49635.
Thanks to the generous contributions of the CSA membership and support by local Benzie County area citizens, in 2011 the Education Fund was able to award ten scholarships totaling $25,500. Total scholarship awards since 1992 is $316,000. The year 2011 was the ninth year that the Tom Williams Memorial Service Award was an option for presentation. This award is presented to the applicant who is most deserving based on who most embodies the spirit and dedication to service that Tom Williams epitomized during his lifetime. Leigh Whelpton received this award for 2011 for her outstanding service to her community. The trustees of the Education Fund would like to thank those who gave memorials, and acknowledge those in whose memory or honor gifts were given. This year contributions were made:

We are also very grateful for generous donations from the Dutton Foundation and from the CSA Women’s Association. The balance in the Education Fund at the end of the summer season was $40,877.47 which includes checking of $17,436.56 and Reserve of $23,440.91. We look forward to increased donations again in 20012 in order to support a large number of applicants with a growing need.

If you’re a student in need who has resided in Benzie County for at least part of the year, demonstrated scholastic ability, and applied for or been accepted by an accredited college, university or into a vocational program, a CSA Scholarship is available to you! The recipients of the CSA Scholarship will be determined by the Trustees of the CSA Education Fund and announced in the summer.
