CrystalNews – Blustery Days
Sep 8th, 2010 | Category: Jay's CornerThe wind has been over 20 mph for over four days now. (caused by a large , slow moving, low over Lake Superior) We normally don’t see this kind of weather until November. The parking spaces at the harbor have drifted over with sand and there are small drifts and eddies on the West end of Main street. It hurts me to watch folks down on the beach with their cameras in the blowing sand. Just driving around the turn around, sand will filter in through the weather stripping on your car…..The beach at Betsie took advantage of the strong surf and re built itself. Multiple tons of sand have been deposited on the beach..At one point the water was running up to within 40 feet of the tree line.
We’ve had a bit of cool weather but nothing major….Anyone wanting to help out with the Fall Festival (the 9th of October) contact the Chamber. It’s fun, a good cause and I have it on good authority that it won’t snow this time…and that it WILL snow for Shiver by the River in Feb….
We’ve released 53 Monarchs so far and have about 20 chrysalises out at Gwen’s that will be hatching probably this weekend. The Monarch reproduction here has been wonderful this Summer. The best I’ve seen since I started tagging them 5 years ago…(in the picture, the female is on the left. The male has a black spot in each hind wing..)
