The residential recycling program will now recycle #5 plastic containers (in addition to #1 & #2 currently collected), continue #2 plastic bags, clear & colored glass bottles & jars in “Glass Only” bins, tin & aluminum containers, paper & flat cardboard at all seven 24/7 drop off recycling sites. Remember to rinse all containers and flatten everything you can for the most efficient use of the recycling program. No scrap metal or trash allowed. Everyone is encouraged to support the students by bringing flat cardboard to the recycling trailers at Frankfort High School, Benzie Central High School & Betsie Valley Elementary School. The 24 / 7 Recycling Program is paid for by an annual fee of $19.00 per household in Benzie County. This is not a tax and businesses do not pay the household fee. The program is for residential use only.

Mark your calendar for 2009 collections of misceflaneous items not accepted at recycling sites. These collections will include Styrofoam, tires, paper shredding, & electronics and are in addition to the two household hazardous waste (HHW) collections. Tires & some electronics may require a fee.

Holiday Christmas Trees can be disposed of at Smittys Tree Service @ 2741 Benzie Hwy Benzonia (across from Timberline Shell) throughout the month of January. Follow the signs to drop off location at the back of the property.
